MOPPILA BEACH
Moppila bay, the famous fishing harbour is situated near the St.Angelo's Fort.
The beach is a natural and now a modernised fishing harbour built with assistance
under the Indo Norwegian pact.
The remnants of the temple & fort are still seen in Moppila bay. The bay
was famous during the Kolathiri's regime as a commercial harbour that linked
Kolathunadu with Lakshadweep and foreign countries, in imports.
A sea wall projecting from the fort separates the rough sea and inland water.
If the weather is favourable a ride in the sea will be a memorable experience.

» KAPPAD BEACH

Kappad
beach came into historic books, when Vasco da Gama landed on its shores on 27th
May 1498 with 170 men in three vessels 500 years ago, thus discovering a sea
route to India. A pillar with inscription "Vasco Da Gama landed here, Kappakkadavau
in the year 1498" stands on the beach. The beach here is very calm with
a stretch of rocks projecting into the sea.
The rock studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu. An interesting feature
of the landscape is the sprawling rock that protrudes into the sea. The temple
on the rock is believed to be 800 years old.
A solitary pillar commemorates the event with the inscription, "Vasco da
Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498". The sea here is placid
and seemingly untouched by history or time.

The crescent-shaped beaches of Kovalam can be divided in three parts. The southern
