Kodaikanal
is South India's best known hill station and is situated amidst the sylvan settings
of the Palani Hills in the Western Ghats. A
charming hill station that retains much of its pristine beauty and magnificent
landscapes provide the ideal settings for the trigger-happy
photographer. The main attraction here is the star shaped lake. Boating on the
lake is a popular pastime and the 5 km path around it, is a favorite promenade.
The popular summer season brings you the various exhibitions and activities
including the Horticultural show and the Regatta. it also has a fine Golf course.
The woods outside Kodaikanal is abundant in birdlife. The pride of Kodaikanal
is the Kurinji flower, which blooms once in 12 years. It is famous for its fruits
which are known for their freshness.

» KOVALAM

This
enchanting strip of golden sands is laced with the rich greenery of coconut
palms. A former fishing village, Kovalam is just 16 kms away from Trivandrum,
Kerala's capital city. Kovalam is an evergreen and pleasant climatic beach resort.
It is a dreamy place for tourists all over the world. Today Kovalam beach is
known as the "Paradise of the South".
With high rock promontory and a calm bay of blue waters, this beach paradise

gently plays with the waves. Swimming and bathing are very refreshing and
exhilirating in the waves. One can walk into the sea about 100 metres without
loosing ground. This cove is also the safest place for swimming. Most of the
visitors like to have a sunbath and get a good suntan on beach . At many coastal
places there are beautiful patches of coral reefs. The underwater views, which

» KUMARAKOM

The
village of Kumarakom is a cluster of little islands on the Vembanad Lake, and
this small water world is part of the Kuttanad region. The bird sanctuary here,
which is spread across 14 acres is a favorite haunt of migratory birds and an
ornithologist's paradise. Egrets, darters, herons, teal, waterfowl, cuckoo,
wild duck and migratory birds like the Siberian stork that live There in flocks
are a fascination for visitors. The best way to watch the birds of the Kumarakom
sanctuary is a boat trip round the islands.
An enchanting backwater destination, Kumarakom offers visitors many other
leisure options. Boating and fishing facilities are available at Kumarakom.

» MAHABALIPURAM

Mahabalipuram
the ancient capital and sea port of Pallava kings is famous for its south Indian
temple architecture.But today it is a sleepy village living on its past glory
and the tourist traffic. The sculptures and carvings are fascinating. Mahabalipuram
is also known as the "city of seven pagodas" for out of solid stone
were carved exquisite rock temples. Five of the temples are known as "Rathas"
and on their walls the story of Hindu mythology has been lovingly carved out.
The most famous of them is group of five rathas. This ratha is dedicated to
the five Pandava princes and their consort-wife Draupadi. A group of elephants
one of them 5 meters long known as "Arjuna Penance" is the most prominent
feature of this sculpture.
